The National Arts Center, a hexagonal complex on the banks ofthe Rideau Canal, houses an opera company, theaters, studios andrestaurants. The Rideau Canal and the Rideau-Trent-SevernWaterway are part of a complex of recreational lakes and canalslinking Ottawa to Lake Ontario and Georgian Bay.

Outstanding among the city's many museums and galleries are theNational Gallery of Canada, the National Museum of Science andTechnology, the Canadian Museum of Nature, the Canadian WarMuseum and the Museum of Civilization (over the bridge in nearbyHull).
