Pool Waterfall Kits
Above ground pond?
Does anyone have any cheap ideas on how to build an above ground pond? We rent and my husband wants a pond…we have looked at pond kits..but I think it would be fun for us to build it ourselfs. We want it as big as one of those hard plastic swimming pools for kids..but taller with a lot of rocks and waterfall feature…
There is no “cheap” way, (other than buying a kit), of making a pond. Especially if you want to do one that size. My suggestion is to buy a liner made for ponds. Those generally come in kits too, and in many different sizes. To make it an above ground one, you will have to either gather up or purchase rocks or retainer stones. Retainer blocks are what people usually use for making flower beds that encircle their home, or to be a free standing one in the yard someplace. But it is not cheap to do. When you build up your wall structure, you will then put the liner inside of the wall with at least 12 inches of the liner hanging over the edges and then put a layer or 2 of rocks or retainer block caps on top of the liner to hold in place.
And that is just the pond, and the waterfall feature will basically be quite another project in itself. But below is just one of many other sites to go to to give you a pretty good basic idea at to how this is done.
Yes…it can be fun; it always is when you DIY, but it is also a lot of work and trial and error as you go about doing it, unless you have a lot of experience. My husband and I don’t, but we built ours ourself.
