The Landscape design of your front and backyard can create an oasis for you and your family and a great place to bring friends for entertainment.  There are several ways to incorporate beautiful hardscape, or any stonework including a stone wall, paved walkway, driveway or patio, without simply using boring, grey concrete.  Here are some Landscaping Ideas to give your backyard a custom feel and beautiful appearance.

If you are interested in constructing a patio, walkway or different kinds of pool decks, using light-colored stone tiles is often desirable.  Hardscape in your yard is just as beautiful as incorporating stone flooring into the interior of your home, but it looks even more natural when it is integrated into your outdoor landscape design because it does not need to be polished or completely flat.  Light stones are desirable because they absorb less light and will be cooler on your feet.  However, feel free to experiment with different colored stones, perhaps basing your final decision on the colors of your home.  Whatever kind of walkways or pool decks you build in your yard, be sure to use the concept of a retaining wall.  This is often used to separate hardscapes from landscaping features.

A hardscape driveway is a beautiful way to add curb appeal to your home.  The personal touch of a drive that is built out of something other than concrete is desirable by many who want their home to stand out.  The best materials to use depend on your circumstances.  Cobblestones are often desirable and give a quality appearance to your driveway.  They are durable, but can be quite expensive and snow removal is tricky.  A retaining wall is important here to separate your cobblestoned driveway from your yard.  Earth toned concrete is a good option to break up the monotony of regular grey concrete as well without the expense of cobblestones.  No matter what landscaping material you use for your driveway, a professional should be left to do the work.

A stone wall can be used in many different applications in your yard.  This form of hardscape can be used as part of your driveway landscape design.  It can run parallel to the driveway along its entire length or meet it perpendicularly at the entrance.  Stone walls can also be used to create courtyards in your front or backyard.  Instead of a standard wooden fence, you can add greater personality and quality to your backyard with pool decks surrounded by stone walls.
