What are the issues associated with leaving my in-ground pool empty for an extended period?

Wanting to avoid the trouble and expense of maintaining my seldom used Swimming Pool, I am planning on leaving it empty for several months. I have heard there is some danger or the pool lifting during extended rainy periods. I live in No. California and we get about 12″ of rain a year. I would prefer to hear from those who have actual positive and/or negative experience doing this. Thx in advance.

i own a pool company.i have heard of the pool popping out of the ground.it would be best if you fill it up,hit it hard with chemicals then cover it.but remember when it turns green it will be a good breeding ground for mosquitoes.and if the health dept fines it they will fine you because it is a health hazard.
